Pastor Matt Shapton

Pastor Matt Shapton brings a wealth of experience and a heart for service to The Community Church. Originally from Michigan, Pastor Matt has called Florida home for the past 15 years, living with his family in Babcock Ranch. His journey to the ministry was unconventional, beginning with a full enlistment in the United States Navy, stationed on the U.S.S. Detroit.

 

As a “second-career Pastor,” Pastor Matt’s first calling was in skilled trades, where he worked as a Master Electrician and Building Contractor. However, the Holy Spirit led him on a new path, prompting him to pursue a Masters Degree in Divinity with a concentration in Mission Development from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Graduating in 2020, Pastor Matt was ordained and called to Mission Development by the Florida-Bahamas Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

In his ministry at Babcock Ranch, Pastor Matt emphasizes Creation Care, advocating for sustainability and environmental stewardship. He finds great joy and growth in ecumenical relationships, serving alongside people from diverse faith traditions. Pastor Matt believes in the unity of the human family, affirming that life is better lived together.
